.For more than 26 years, Diaz Music Institute has provided engaging and transformative music education experiences for students throughout Houston. Our Summer Music Workshops combine jazz, Latin jazz, funk, improvisation, percussion, and contemporary music instruction in a supportive and inspiring environment led by experienced educators and professional musicians.

Each workshop location has a separate application to help us manage enrollment, student placement, and site-specific reporting requirements for our supporting partners and funders. Please select the workshop site your student will attend and complete that specific application.

DMI’s Summer Music Workshops combine professional-level music instruction with mentorship, creativity, leadership, and cultural exploration. Students work directly with experienced educators and guest artists while developing confidence, discipline, collaboration, and artistic expression.

Students receive instruction in brass, woodwinds, percussion, piano, bass, guitar, voice, and more.
Students explore Afro-Caribbean and Latin jazz rhythms through hands-on percussion and ensemble performance.
Workshops encourage improvisation, composition, self-expression, and musical confidence.
Students are introduced to recording, music production, entrepreneurship, and modern music careers.

Diaz Music Institute (DMI) is committed to the education, preservation, and Latin music performance.
